: How would say a Canon A2 compare to a Nikon N90s for housed underwater photography?
Topside, Canon vs. Nikon is mostly a matter of personal preference. I've used both, and they tend to "leapfrog" each other in quality and technological improvements. Nikon does seem to cost a bit more, all else equal. The A2 and N90s are great cameras, although I think the N90s (a bottom of the line pro model) is a step up from the A2 (a top of the line amateur model). You might want to note that both of these cameras are discontinued.
Underwater, the advantage has to go to Nikon, by a huge margain. There are more housings made for Nikon cameras (especially the N90/N90s) than any other, and most strobes are made to conform to Nikon's "strobe language" due to the prevalence of the Nikonos line of UW cameras. Other than Ikelite (which can make a housing for just about anything), almost every housing manufacturer makes a housing for the N90 and other Nikon cameras. Very few make Canon housings by comparison.
