: I need your advice on the type of camera equipment I should purchase. I am an experienced diver that would like to take pictures. I have been told to buy a Nikonos V with a SB105 by one person and a Sea and Sea setup by another person. What do you suggest?

Don:

Essentially, if you want to produce the best images you possibly can, then purchase the Nikonos system over the Sea & Sea. I feel the prime optics used by Nikonos are superior to the add-on optics used by Sea & Sea. The Nikonos camera also permits more control over the image making process by providing more shutter speed choices, and film speed choices of 25 to 1600 ISO. It also offers a 1/90 sec mechanical shutter speed in case of battery failure. And more manufacturers make accessories for Nikonos.

That having been said, the Sea & Sea MMII-EX is still an excellent camera system that offers over-all economy and many convenience features not found on Nikonos; ie., auto-indexing of ISO (although limited to 50/100/400 ISO), power wind and rewind, built-in close-up lens, and convenient and less expensive add-on lenses.
