This strobe front is compatible with NiCad, NiMH, and Li-ion battery packs as featured on our DS125 and DS161 strobes. Battery pack sold separately.

The DS160 combines power with wide angle coverage to give you the most bang for your buck.

The quality of light is exceptional due to a round flash tube and custom powder coated reflector designed specifically to deliver the softest, most even coverage possible. Strobes with a straight flashtube may be capable of high powers, but require the addition of a diffuser to spread out their sharp, rectangular beam pattern and reduce the harsh hot spot. The DS160 beam is designed to be perfectly soft and wide spread through its reflector design, and is capable of providing you the coverage and power you want and avoiding the one f/stop loss caused by adding a diffuser.

Both our DS160 and DS161 strobes are legendary for their ability to keep up in rapid firing situations—a cut above any flash on the market. Electrical sync connection and a high-capacity battery pack provide the speed you need to capture fast moving subjects like sharks and sailfish at just the right millisecond.

When combined with a compatible TTL system, the DS160 automatically adjusts brightness to provide perfect exposure whether you're shooting macro, portrait or wide angle. Focus on your camera settings and composition and enjoy the increased number of flashes and even faster recycle time you'll get when working with a TTL system.

A bright, concentrated LED aiming light provides more than enough light for focusing or as a night diving light. The LED turns off and on when the strobe is fired, ensuring that no bright spots will ruin your photo.

The DS160 strobe output is identical to its sister model, the DS161. The DS161 features a built-in 500 lumen video light in place of the DS160's aiming light.

Battery Compatibility

A battery pack is required for operation of this strobe front. Battery pack sold separately. Use only working Ikelite Li-ion (Product Number 4067.2, Product Number 4067), NiMH (Product Number 4066.5), or NiCad (Product Number 4066) battery packs. Please note that older battery packs may not provide optimal number of flashes per charge or recycle times. Use of a flooded or damaged battery pack with this strobe front may cause damage which is not covered by warranty. If you are experiencing problems with your strobe functioning, we recommend trying a new battery pack prior to returning for service.

Our proprietary quick-release toggle system attaches the battery pack with ease and confidence, making a flooded battery virtually impossible. The size of the DS160 is uniquely balanced to its weight to provide near neutral buoyancy in salt water.

Overview

Converts the electrical bulkhead of any Ikelite DS strobe into a fiber optic port.

Updates

This 3rd Generation of the Fiber Optic Converter features a hard anodized aluminum plug connection which reduces weight without sacrificing durability. It is recommended for use with any Ikelite strobe produced September 2018 or later with a hard anodized aluminum bulkhead.

Like the 2nd Generation model, this Fiber Optic Converter features heightened sensitivity for use with SEA&SEA or Nauticam housings with internal electrical-to-optical flash triggering devices. These devices translate the camera's electrical signals into a series of LED flashes which are much less bright than a traditional built-in camera flash. The Fiber Optic Converter is also compatible with any system where the camera's built-in flash can be seen by a fiber optic cord.

Attachment and Use

The Converter simply attaches to the strobe's electrical bulkhead in place of a sync cord connector. The enlarged slave window provides approximately 90 degrees field of view for remote triggering.

The Fiber Optic Converter automatically configures itself for compatibility with both pre-flash and non pre-flash camera modes. No setting of small switches or confusion over number of pre-flashes. Simply turn on your strobe and take one picture to configure. This adapter is a manual exposure (non-TTL) trigger only. The strobe's output may be adjusted using the manual power settings built into the strobe (varies by model).

An individual Fiber Optic Converter and compatible cord is needed for each strobe. Use of two strobes requires two Fiber Optic Converters.

This converter attaches to an Ikelite DS strobe. It is not intended to be attached to a housing and will provide no functionality if attached to an Ikelite bulkhead in a housing.

Alternatives

There are two shooting scenarios where the High Sensitivity Optical Slave Converter # 4405 would be a better option:

If you're shooting a DSLR or mirrorless camera with Nauticam fiber optic converter and want to shoot at a higher frame rate (4 FPS or faster).
If your primary purpose is to trigger your strobes remotely at a distance from the housing without a fiber optic cable in between.
